eating stuff crust
from Pizza Hut
I used to listen to the Bar-Kays
while in the arcade

The stuff of legends
small time quarters
who were making dollars
before meeting the ones
who were stenciled by Prada

We got enchiladas
from the local taqueria
Horchata on ice
she cast a spell
like Sabrina

Witchcraft, she splish splashed
in Jacuzzis in the winter
looking at the night sky
wondering what’s for dinner

I haven’t seen her
since our teenage years
If she was here now
she’d help me
through Amnesia Tears

But life goes on
many would cross
Graffiti Bridge
to get in fist fights
this type wasn’t always
the seedy kids

It could be the ones
bullied over the way
they live
The ones uncomfortable
in the skin they in

Images of loved ones
now plastered on T-Shirts
are literally
moving memorials
walking on Earth

I hurt Chicago
by being bull-headed
thought I could
touch the sky
with my jewels leaded

Who said it
assumed message
in a bottle half-drunk
being drunk in love

in a rut

So, what’s up
the motherless child
can be a mother with child
and all I’m trying to do
just to recapture her smile

Maybe I was wrong
for trying to fly Solo
in my War to be a Star
in the global

Destined to be betrayed
by son and friend alike
Stabbed through the chest
becoming cold as carbonite

with the hand full of flower
cooking up the fettuccini
that you used to devour
